


Introduction
Gonya bhakri is a tribal traditional dish which is served for breakfast with tea. Gonnye, also called Ragi (finger millets) and scientifically called Eleusine coracana, is high in calcium, iron, and fiber. Ragi confers valuable health benefits such as enhancing digestions, reducing the risk of heart diseases, slowing down ageing and managing diabetes. Ragi is indeed a superfood, offering a multitude of essential nutrients for the growthand development oforgans. Bhakri is made of “Gonne” (millets/ Ragi).The tribal community’s people cultivate Gonne for their livelihood.
Additional Information
Millets (gonnye) grow after the first monsoon showers. To grow these millets, the tribal people first cleaned the area to be cultivated among the hilly regions and harvested the crops after monsoonsin bundles of Gonne called “Posva”. These were then dried for 3-4 days to make gonne. The gonne were then made into“Pit” by grinding it to flour using the traditional grinding stone, Datem. It is stored for longperiods and used whenever wanted to make Gonnyacha Pitache Amot, Bhakri, and Satv.

Ingredients
For Cooking
- Gonnyache pit (ragi flour) - 5 handful (½ kg)
- Ukde shit (Cooked rice)-2 handful (250 gram)
- Nall (coconut) - 1 handful
- God (Jaggery) – 1 handful (300 gram)
- Chanyachi panna (leaves)- 10 or kellichi panna (banana leaves) - 2
- Mit (Salt) to taste

Collect the leaves and wash them thoroughly

Collectragi and grind them using a grinding stone to make flour

Add salt to the flour

Add grated coconut, cooked rice, and jaggery to the flour and knead it using water.

Keep tova on achulla

Take one leaf and apply the thick mixture of ragi flour, or “Pitacho Gullo”,and make a small thick circle on the upper part of the flour. Cover the circle with another leaf.

Place the leaf stuffed with the flour on the hot tova

Bake it on both sides till it darkenson both sides of the leaves.
