Gharyashaak (Jackfruit Vegetable)

Introduction
The rich tapestry of Goantribal cuisine and the use of raw jackfruit in vegetable dishes is a flavorful tradition among the tribal communities. In Goa, there are two types of jackfruit trees:

  1. Rasal Panas
  2. KapoPanas
Physically both lookthe same but the taste and how they are consumed are different.Ripe Kapo Panasare more popular because they are very tasty when eaten directly. “Rasaal“, literally means juicy, in the local Konkani language. This type of jackfruit is used to prepare a variety of tribal dishes like“Gharyabhakari”. Even around 20-30 years ago,“gharyashaak” was the main cuisine of the Goan tribal because they were easily available in the backyard or plantation. This dish is usuallyprepared between April and June.
