It is a matter of great satisfaction to mark the public launch of the website and YouTube channel developed as part of the project “Rediscovering Tribal Cuisine of Goa: An Action Research Proposal in Two Districts of Goa.” This initiative represents a thoughtful and timely effort to document and celebrate the rich culinary traditions of Goa’s tribal communities.
The food practices of the Gawada, Velip, and Kunbi communities reflect generations of indigenous knowledgerooted in local resources, seasonal rhythms, and sustainable ways of life. These traditions are an integral part of Goa’s cultural heritage and deserve to be preserved, respected, and shared with wider society.
I commend the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, and the entire project team for their sincere engagement with tribal communities and for documenting traditional recipes and food practices with care and sensitivity. The support provided by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, under the Support to Tribal Research Institute scheme has played a vital role in enabling this important work.
The launch of the website and YouTube channel is a significant step forward. These digital platforms will help bring tribal knowledge closer to students, researchers, and the general public, while also serving as a lasting record for future generations. Most importantly, they give visibility and voice to the communities that are the true custodians of this heritage.
I am confident that this initiative will contribute meaningfully to the preservation of Goa’s tribal culture and promote greater awareness and appreciation of indigenous food systems. I extend my best wishes to the project team for the continued success of this endeavour.
