It gives me great pleasure to mark the public launch of the official website and YouTube channel developed under the project “Rediscovering Tribal Cuisine of Goa: An Action Research Proposal in Two Districts of Goa.” This initiative is a heartfelt tribute to the rich food traditions of Goa’s tribal communities and an important step towards keeping this living heritage alive.
The traditional food practices of the Gawada, Velip, and Kunbi communities are not merely culinary expressions; they represent generations of indigenous knowledge rooted in sustainability, biodiversity, seasonal wisdom, and a deep respect for nature. Documenting and sharing this knowledge is essential, especially at a time when rapid social change threatens the continuity of such living traditions.
I appreciate the dedicated efforts of the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, and the entire project team for their dedicated efforts in documenting 75 traditional tribal recipes and associated food practices with sensitivity and academic rigour. The support extended by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, under the Support to Tribal Research Institute scheme has enabled this valuable work to reach a wider audience.
The launch of the website and YouTube channel marks an important step in making tribal knowledge accessible to students, researchers, policymakers, and the general public. These digital platforms will serve not only as repositories of culinary heritage but also as tools for awareness, pride, and intergenerational learning.
I am confident that this initiative will strengthen awareness and respect for Goa’s tribal heritage and encourage greater appreciation of indigenous food systems. I congratulate everyone involved and wish the project continued success in its journey of learning, sharing, and celebration.
